megatokyo
MegaTokyo is a webcomic (now being published in volumes) started by
Fred Gallagher and
Rodney Caston, and now completely owned by Fred Gallagher.
The comic begins with Piro and Largo, two young men. After a failed attempt to sneak into a gaming convention, the two make a rather random trip to Tokyo. They soon find themselves
stranded in Japan without the money to return home... From that point on, enter female PS2 accessories, Rent-A-Zillas, and increasing drama.
MegaTokyo is undoubtedly a unique and addicting read.
him
Socially awkward and always running low on self-esteem, Piro is one of MegaTokyo's two protagonists. Piro seems to be a typical fanboy: He attempts to use video games and manga
to relate to his life and figure out girls, but when it comes to real-life relationships, he has a tendancy to make things quite messy. He's a talented artist, and much more serious than his friend Largo.
Surprisingly despite his inferiority complex, Piro has managed to capture the interest of at least three girls, though the only one he's shown any return interest in is Kimiko.
her
Kimiko's first appearance in MegaTokyo is as a waitress in the Anna Miller restaurant that Tsubasa takes Piro and Largo to. She is an aspiring voice actress, and comes across as being rather shy.
Despite this shyness, she occasionally is quite straightforward, the best example being her rather spirited defense of fanboys during a radio interview.
them
Kimiko first meets Piro when she trips and the coffee pot she's carrying makes its way from her hands to his face. Awhile later, Kimiko is shown at a train station where she is worrying
about not having a rail card. Piro hands Kimiko his, and walks away before he realizes who she is. Their relationship seems to be one misunderstanding after another, but the two become friends, and while Piro's feelings for Kimiko are slightly less obvious,
it becomes clear that Kimiko has developed feelings for him.
why 'accidental'?
To put it bluntly, what else can be said of two people who met by way of airborne coffee pot?
